Press Release

LONDON, 14 June 2016 - Ciaran Carvalho, senior partner at Nabarro and head of the international law firm’s Real Estate practice, has been appointed as Chairman of the IPF. Jonathan Thompson, Chairman of Argent (Property Development) Services LLP, has been made Vice-Chairman.

Ciaran, who takes on the Chairman’s role for the next 12 months, commented:
”The role of the IPF has never been more important. In uncertain times, with some having postponed investment decisions ahead of the Brexit vote, it is vital that we continue to highlight the liquidity, transparency and opportunity inherent in the UK commercial real estate market. That opportunity is becoming more diverse. In 2015 investment in alternative sectors increased by 7% to account for 25% of the total and there was a move towards ‘real assets’. Both represent an interesting shift in the market.”
“It’s a great privilege to take on the role of Chairman of the IPF. I would like to thank my predecessor Chris Ireland for his leadership of the IPF and in particular for spearheading the development of the IPF Protocol: Open Market Investment Agency. This was launched in November 2014 and developed further this year when CBRE, Cushman & Wakefield, JLL, Knight Frank and Savills jointly funded a training video, ‘Managing Conflicts of Interest’, to share with other firms in the investment agency market. This can be viewed via the IPF website, together with a sample barrier policy (an information barrier template) and a sample letter to clients when conflicts arise.”

Vice-Chairman, Jonathan Thompson, said:
“I am looking forward to working with Ciaran in helping the IPF promote and explain UK real estate to domestic and international investors. I have a particular interest in the growth and continued regeneration of our major cities and the contribution large scale renewal can make to the housing shortage.”
