This upcoming session will explore how artificial intelligence is reshaping the landscape of forecasting through both qualitative and quantitative methods. Nikodem Szumilo, Associate Professor at UCL, will discuss the use of AI in enhancing qualitative forecasting—such as using natural language processing and large language models to support expert judgment, scenario analysis, and sense-making in uncertain environments. Monika Szumilo, a lecturer from the Department of Physics at UCL, will then focus on quantitative approaches, examining how machine learning techniques and statistical AI models can identify patterns in large datasets to generate predictive insights. The session will highlight how AI enables a more integrated, flexible forecasting process and will conclude with an open discussion on practical applications, interdisciplinary perspectives, and the evolving role of AI in decision-making.
