Hurdle Rates in the Real Estate Investment Process

Hurdle rates have traditionally been a key part of the investment decision process, but little is known of how specifically they are calculated and used in practice. Recently concluded research, by a combined team from the Universities of Cambridge and Aberdeen, considers whether the theoretical approach to setting hurdle rates, based on a risk-free rate plus a property risk premium, is actually applied by practitioners.
Professor Colin Lizieri, who led the research team, will present the principal findings.
