Amid the uncertainty of the Brexit negotiations and fierce competition from other international cities, Grosvenor Britain & Ireland commissioned Oxford Economics in May 2018 to consider the flow of people to London from the rest of the UK, Europe and the world. It wanted to understand how changes to those flows are likely to shape London's population over the short, medium and long term, particularly in the light of Brexit.
This briefing outlines the key findings by Oxford Economics, which were included in a discussion paper published by Grosvenor in September 2018. The paper looks at the likely impact on the capital's future levels of employment, and focus on sectors that might experience a skills shortage as a result of our projected changes in population. It then goes on to discuss a range of possible policy responses from our civic leaders to the future that is painted by these forecasts.
