The development landscape has been adapting to the new Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) regime, introduced under the Environment Act 2021 and effective from February 2024, with this regulatory shift also carrying direct implications for real estate investors. Beyond statutory compliance, BNG is also a strategic consideration that can influence planning risk, enhance Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) performance, and potentially improve exit values.
