Scotland: Hurdle Rates in the Real Estate Investment Process
2
Oct
2017
Hurdle rates have traditionally been a key part of the investment decision process,
but little is known of how specifically they are calculated and used in practice.
Recently concluded research, by a combined team from the Universities of
Cambridge and Aberdeen, investigated the extent to which and how hurdle rates are
used in investment decisions, considering whether the theoretical approach, based
on a risk‐free rate plus a property risk premium, is actually applied by practitioners.
Professor Norman Hutchison and Dr Rainer Schulz of the University of Aberdeen will
present the principal findings at this lunchtime briefing.
